Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 - The best kind

Yesterday we went to town for the day, sans camera...ooops! But all the usual suspects in terms of activities - groceries at Dominion, Timmy Ho's coffee and fruit-filled Timbits, books at the library, restaurant supper, swimming at the Aquarena. One notable exception to our usual rule was that cousin Emily came with us for the day, much to Maggie's delight. Emily was a gem, very helpful and the model of manners and decorum. She listened to her MP3s and sang along...by the time we hit the Goulds bypass on the way home Maggie was twittering "Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your girlfriend..." Have her baby Beluga days passed already?

And today was a standout day. After some early morning mowing, seven of us piled in the van, leaving Granda Tom and Riley holding down the fort, and headed down the shore to the Captain's Table restaurant in Witless Bay (listed, by the way, in "Where to Eat in Canada").

We took the scenic route there, and the VERY scenic route back. Name a community between Calvert and Witless bay, and we toured it. Cape Broyle, Brigus South, Bauline, Burnt Cove, St. Michael's, Mobile, Witless Bay...I love Cape Breton, but really, the Cabot Trail has nothing on the Southern Shore.

Aside from the scenery, we gawked (and scorned)at the big houses, stopped in at an art gallery, bought roadside lemonade, shared shirts, swung on swings, ate ice cream, and peed in our pants (well, almost, and only one of us).
