Wednesday, August 1st, 2007 - Would you like some food, Mrs. Turnblad?

Today was supposed to be the 189th running of the Royal St. John's Regatta. Instead, it marked the arrival of Tropical Storm Chantal, which brought devastation to the Placentia/Dunville area, and headaches to many other communities on the Avalon Peninsula. It was our first day of rain since Ed and David arrived, so it seemed the perfect opportunity to head to St. John's for a movie. We went to see Hairspray, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. (Yes, Silas loved a musical!) It is worth noting that Ed seemed to enjoy it mainly for the excellent opportunity it provided for napping. David lost his poutine to the bottom of Ed's shoe, but even that couldn't dampen our spirits!

When we emerged from the movie theatre the tropical storm had given way to clear air and sunshine. We stopped in briefly on Sr. Patrice at the Presentation Motherhouse, where Ed perused the picture book on Pope John Paul II. David was particularly intrigued by the photos of His Holiness meeting the Harlem Globetrotters!

Then we went on to Signal Hill. A lovely view, yes...

But wouldn't you know, more soldiers. Better not shoot me...
