Saturday, July 14th, 2007 - Movin' on up

Today was our last day at Josephine's. On Monday Francis, her son, will arrive from BC for his first visit to Calvert in 10 years. Much as we hate to leave, who can argue with that reason?

And in some ways it is about time to make a move. The boys have tired with all the childproof stuff on the house, and have discovered new and creative ways to get in trouble. Their latest favourite is crawling under the kitchen table. At first this seemed silly and cute. Then they started whacking on the baseboard heater and laughing hysterically at the sound it would make. Then they discovered that by grabbing the tablecloth and pulling really hard they could make all manner of fun and messy stuff topple before their very eyes. Needless to say, that game lost its charm pretty quickly.

Today was also the beginning of Calvert Days, a small, two day event organized by people from the community as a way for residents, former residents, and people connected with Calvert to get together to eat, drink and be merry (and raise some money for the church and hall at the same time). The weather was smashing and the people came out in droves. Fish cakes and toutons and beans and more at the hall for lunch, then dancing till the wee hours at night. After some convincing, Nan agreed to come the hall for lunch. And it took just as much convincing to get her to come home when it was all done!

The kids had fun, too, but on their own terms.
